How to prepare and safely use the boats

At Skipperi, your safety is our priority. Whether you’re a seasoned boater or a first-time user, it’s important to follow the right steps to ensure a safe and enjoyable experience on the water. This guide will walk you through the necessary steps to properly prepare and use our boats.

Before You Leave the Dock: Key Preparations

1. Check-In and Inspect the Boat

Upon arrival at the dock, open the Skipperi app to check in. You should also inspect the boat for any existing damages or missing items. This ensures that you are not held liable for any issues that were present before you began your reservation. If you notice anything that needs attention, mark it in the app during check-in.

2. Review Safety Equipment

All of our boats are equipped with safety gear. Before heading out, make sure you have access to the following:

  • Life Jackets: Life jackets are provided on each boat. Make sure everyone on board has one that fits properly. Wearing a life jacket is highly recommended, especially for non-swimmers and children.
  • Fire Extinguisher: Each boat is equipped with a fire extinguisher. Familiarize yourself with its location and how to use it.
  • Other Safety Equipment: Check for additional safety items such as flares, first aid kits, and anchors, which should all be on board.

3. Review Local Boating Rules and Regulations

Before starting your trip, familiarize yourself with the local boating laws and regulations. These may include speed limits, areas where boating is restricted, and rules on docking. As a responsible boater, it’s important to follow these rules to ensure your safety and the safety of others on the water.

While on the Water: Safe Boating Practices

1. Follow Speed Limits

Respect the speed limits posted on the water and around the dock. Skipperi encourages leisurely cruising, so take your time and enjoy the experience. Speeding may not only be dangerous but could also result in penalties.

2. Maintain Safe Distances

Always maintain a safe distance from other boats, docks, and swimmers. Keep your distance from no-wake zones, and be mindful of the watercraft and people around you.

3. Stay Sober and Alert

As with any vehicle, operating a boat while under the influence of alcohol or drugs is illegal and extremely dangerous. Always stay sober and alert while on the water to make quick decisions if necessary.

4. Keep the Boat Balanced

Ensure that the weight is evenly distributed on the boat. Avoid placing heavy objects in one area, as this could affect the boat’s stability and handling.

Emergency Procedures

It’s always a good idea to be prepared for unexpected situations. Familiarize yourself with the emergency procedures on the boat:

  • Lost or Damaged Items: If you lose or damage any items during your reservation, mark it in the Skipperi app at checkout so we can address it accordingly.
  • If You Get Stuck or Need Assistance: If you find yourself in need of help while on the water, such as getting stuck or facing mechanical issues, you can contact Sea Tow for assistance. Their number is 1-912-313-0335. Sea Tow provides towing and on-water assistance, and they can help you get back to shore safely.

After Your Reservation: Proper Check-Out Procedures

When you return to the dock:

  • Check Out in the App: Open the Skipperi app to check out and confirm the boat’s condition.
  • Inspect the Boat: Check the boat for any damage or missing items. Report any issues to ensure the boat is properly serviced for the next member.
  • Secure the Boat: Once the boat is docked, make sure it is properly secured and any equipment is stowed safely.
