Our Story and Vision

The idea for Skipperi was born in 2017 when founders Kristian and Anna-Leena Raij noticed their family sailboat was sitting unused. As parents with busy lives, they recognized that traditional boat ownership wasn't practical for everyone who loves the water. Renting their boat seemed like a natural solution, but finding reliable renters was challenging. So, Kristian and Anna-Leena assembled a team with expertise in software, design, and marketing to create a better way for people to enjoy boating.

Skipperi launched as a peer-to-peer rental platform, allowing boat owners to rent out their vessels directly to others. Over time, Skipperi evolved into a broader platform, adding shared fleet services that allow members to enjoy boating through a monthly subscription, providing convenient access to well-maintained boats with just a few taps in the Skipperi app.

Skipperi’s Journey

2017: Skipperi launched as a peer-to-peer boat rental service in Finland with just 12 boats.
2018: Expanded to offer a seasonal rowboat service in Espoo.
2019: Introduced motorboats to the fleet, significantly growing the city boat service.
2020: Expanded internationally, launching in Sweden.
2021: Launched Skipperi Fleet, a shared fleet service across Scandinavia and New Zealand, providing 350 shared boats.
2022: Expanded to Canada and added electric boats to the service.
2023: Enhanced the Skipperi app with new features, including a community-maintained destination guide for boating.
2024: Skipperi launches its first US location in Hilton Head, South Carolina, expanding access to the American boating community.
