Certifications: US-specific requirements (Boating license, State Safety Course)

Modified on Fri, 29 Nov, 2024 at 10:10 AM

To ensure safe and responsible boating, Skipperi members in the United States are required to provide proof of either a Boating License or a State Safety Course Certificate before using our boats.

What Certifications Are Required?

You only need to provide one of the following:

  1. Boating License

A valid boating license from your state of residence is acceptable for membership.

  2. South Carolina Boater Safety Course Certificate

In South Carolina (home to our Hilton Head location), members can complete the South Carolina Boater Safety Course as an alternative to a boating license.

You can obtain your South Carolina Boater Safety Course Certificate by completing the course online at BoatUS.org.

How to Submit Your Certification

Once you’ve obtained your boating license or safety course certificate:

  1. Log in to your Skipperi account.
  2. Navigate to the Onboarding Checklist.
  3. Upload a digital copy or clear photo of your certification.
  4. Ensure the name on the certification matches your Skipperi account.

Why Are Certifications Required?

These certifications demonstrate that you understand basic boating safety and operations, helping to ensure a safe experience for everyone on the water.
